I thoroughly enjoy making images, and even more so when the finished piece communicates with others, this is the strongest driving force behind all my work.

I am inspired by the many ways in which people communicate and think, how micro cultures evolve and perhaps most of all the romance of far-away places. Shanghai is a city which I have had an unusual infatuation with for four years now, when not visiting I am love sick and planning my next escape to the east. I have been enjoying exploring sequential illustrations as a form of narrative, finding my way around the comic book medium and incorporating reportage.

Since written and spoken language is an interest of mine, I enjoy exploring the non-use of it in an illustrative context. I create work with a variety of mediums, however recently using brushes and gouache I have started to develop a visual language of minimal flat colour with plenty of dry brush and course line-work. When I work with a line I always attempt to contrast the clinical sharpness of digital brush work, striving for an organic and handmade feel. Often the stories I want to tell are full of human imperfection and the beauty of the complex cultural  mess which constantly evolves.
